National Poetry Day

8 October 2009

National Poetry Day 2009 took place on Thursday 8^th October and this year’s theme was Heroes and Heroines. During their English lessons, students explored a variety of poems based on this theme, from David Bateman’s ‘The World’s Worst Super-Villain’ to Maya Angelou’s ‘Still I Rise’. They used the structure of these texts to write their own, original poem about heroes and heroines. Some chose to write about their personal heroes, whilst others explored the idea of super-heroes who do not conform! All Key Stage 3 students brought their poetry to life through some performance poetry in the hall.
