Elvian Spring Review raises £400 for charity Daisy's Dream
4 February 2010
The Elvian's ‘Spring Review’ went ahead a little earlier than expected this year, but pupils and teachers responded in style to raise £400 for Berkshire charity Daisy’s Dream, presenting the cheque to representative Gill Stevens on Monday.
Daisy’s Dream supports children and their families facing bereavement, and needs to raise £200,000 a year to continue to support many families in the Berkshire area.
A number of comedy sketches, music pieces and dance routines were performed to an appreciative audience. The Year 10 girls were superb in their interpretation of the ‘Hairdressers’ ascent of Everest’, while the Year 9 team, led by Kieron Walia, performed an excellent comedy routine in the ‘Excuse me, I have a dirty fork’ restaurant sketch.
Michael Pomeroy on the violin and soloist Marisa Rodriguez also drew huge applause, along with comedy acts ‘The Spanish Inquisition’, ‘Casualty’, the Two Ronnies, ‘The Overzealous Copper’ and the ‘Banter’ sketch. The Year 7 pupils were great ambassadors for the school as they waited on tables, donating their tips to the charity.
Finally, teachers and sixth form drew the evening to a close with an interesting version of Slumdog Millionaire’s ‘Jai-ho’ and a magnificent production of the ‘Halleluiah Chorus’.
Organiser Mike Sutton was delighted with the evening. “This was a wonderful effort from the whole school community. It is on occasions such as these, when everyone pulls together to put on a show, that you appreciate what a special place the Elvian has become.”
Gill Stevens from Daisy’s Dream was presented with a cheque for £400 at the school assembly on Monday. Gill was very grateful to the school for the support they had shown over the course of the year.
