Prep School children choosing books to buy
The Elvian School celebrated World Book Day by taking part in a number of events during the week. On Monday a group of Year 7 students attended a talk organised by the Education Library Service by the well-known author Marcus Sedgwick, who spoke about his books and the wealth of research that he did into vampire legend before writing them. Fascinating!
On Tuesday we hosted a visit from poet and performer Andrew Fusek Peters, who inspired and entertained Year 6-9 with a talk, performance of his own poetry and even some didgeridoo playing!
Thursday saw the annual Inter-House Book Quiz, with teams from each house vying for the coveted title - retained by Grange.
On Friday, staff entered into the spirit of things by dressing up as a book character, which pupils had to identify correctly, along with the author of the book concerned. Much hilarity ensued, along with a fair bit of book and author identifying. The final event was a book sale of donated books held at lunchtime, which raised £40 for the charity Book Aid International. A fitting conclusion to an exciting week!
